STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - A young man from Staten Island drowns in the Delaware River.

Officials with the National Park Service say Christopher Rivera was on a rafting trip when he decided to stop and swim Tuesday afternoon.

He was near the Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge, which connects New Jersey and Pennsylvania and is about 76 miles from the city.

The people with Rivera say they saw him struggling with the current before he went under water.

A search and rescue team was able to recover Rivera's body about four hours later.

Officials say he was not wearing a life jacket.
