STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Police are trying to identify the woman whose body was found at a Staten Island park over the weekend.

Sources tell NY1 the body was naked and had been burned.

Two children made the gruesome discovery at Long Pond Park in Tottenville around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Neighbors say police told them the body may have been there for some time.

"It’s devastating it’s really shocking," said one neighborhood resident.

"I have a family, I have three kids of my own, so I feel bad for anyone who is going through this right now, unfortunately this is something. It's a parents worst nightmare, it really is," said another resident.

The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
