NEW YORK - The man accused of killing the girl who became known as "Baby Hope" has died in custody.

The state commission of correction confirms Conrado Juarez died in a Rockland County hospital over the weekend.

The 57-year-old Juarez was awaiting trial since his arrest in 2013.

He was charged in the 1991 murder of his 4-year-old cousin, Angelica Castillo.

The girl's body was found in a cooler in a wooded area in upper Manhattan.

Her killing remained unsolved for more than two decades.

Detectives called her "Baby Hope" until DNA testing confirmed her identity.
