An event on Staten Island helps empower girls be the best they can be.

About 400 girls took part in the Girls World Expo at the College of Staten Island Sunday. Local teen girls created the event for teen girls. The day was filled with seminars, demonstrations and vendors all geared towards girls. Topics focused on everything from learning how to code to creating a social media brand.

"We really feel that we want to talk to the next generation in a positive and inspiring way. This is something that you know most girls their age don’t really get to do, is come out of their bedrooms, off of their devices and have an experience together, " said Girls World Expo founder Varinda Missett.

The girls also got a chance to speak one-on-one with women who are leaders in business, government and industry who are now their role models of success.
