Senator Kirsten Gillibrand hosted a town hall meeting on Staten Island Sunday to create a platform for residents to voice their concerns.

Residents came out to the College of Staten Island and asked questions on several topics ranging from immigration to President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Last week the president spoke against his own intelligence team, saying he had no reason to believe Russia would meddle in the 2016 presidential election.

He later recanted the statement saying he misspoke and meant to use the word "wouldn't."

"The fact that President Trump would not stand up to Putin when he was in Helsinki was an outrage. The fact that he is not taking election intrusion seriously. The fact that he was unwilling to hold putin accountable, create any transparency. I think he was abdicating his leadership as our president," Gillibrand said.

While most residents wanted to know how Gillibrand plans to stop the Trump administration from following through on some policies they don't like, some asked about local issues like Staten Island's lack of access to public hospitals.
