Dog owners and walkers in Queens call on the city to make their local dog park safer for pets. They say the dog run at Murray Playground in Long Island City is filled with hazards conditions including rocks that slice open their pet's paws when running around.  They also say the dogs get covered in urine-filled dust or mud when it rains. They want the city to fix the park by improving drainage and installing new asphalt or astroturf.

"I avoid this park because it's so dirty. I can't bring dogs here at all," said dog walker Richard Sowell.

In response, a Parks Department spokeswoman tells NY1 the dog run has not had a major renovation at all in its 20-plus year history.

Adding, "We will look into ways to mitigate these issues for the short term, as we seek funding for a full capital renovation of the site."
