Staten Islanders are celebrating LGBTQ Pride in the borough.

Dozens took part in this 5k Sunday morning. The Pride Center of Staten Island held the event at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden.

It's part of the community center's annual Staten Island PrideFest which features different events throughout the week.

Organizers say the events help give the community a chance to celebrate LGBTQ pride without having to leave their home borough.

"The disadvantage unfortunately is for anyone that wants nightlife here on Staten Island has to go into Manhattan or Jersey. So that's why we make a whole spread of the 11 events over nine days. So we have that chance to really celebrate pride here," said Marcy Carr Operations Director, Pride Center of Staten Island.

On Monday the Chipotle on Hylan Boulevard is hosting a fundraiser between 4 and 8 PM. Half of the proceeds will go to the center

All you have to do is bring a copy of a flyer or show it on your phone.

The flyer is available on PrideCenterSI.org.
