Staten Island tenants facing eviction learned about their rights on Saturday.

The Right To Counsel NYC Coalition partnered with the nonprofit Project Hospitality for a Town Hall on tenant rights in Port Richmond.

The event highlighted the law that passed in 2017 giving eligible tenants facing eviction the right to free legal counsel.

A reprehensive with the nonprofit Legal Services NYC says having a lawyer in housing court is important.

"Sometimes tenants don't necessarily understand that they could be rent stabilized and actually their landlord can't just evict them for no reason, and so having a lawyer can help with that," said Marika Dias, Director of Tenant Rights Coalition, Legal Services NYC.
