A Staten Island neighborhood becomes a "campus" for the day to inspire young students.

Island Voice hosted its 11th annual Youth Empowerment Summit Friday.  Workshops on civic engagement and the importance of technology were held in buildings throughout St. George, including Staten Island Borough Hall and the St. George Library.

Organizers say the programs teach high school students about engaging in the community and highlights ways to best navigate the college application process. Including saving money early.

Bobby Digi, Executive Director of Island Voice says "we want young people to be empowered so they're not straddled with debts when they graduate. They understand how to apply for funds and how to save up for college."

Nearly 500 students participated in the summit this year. News you can use there.
