One organization on Staten Island is taking a novel approach to combatting drugs in the area.

A non profit is turning to the performing arts in order to tackle substance abuse on the borough. Performers with 'Total Drama Productions,' which is based in the borough, introduced a new program called 'New York City Class Acts' by delivering a play at South Fin Grill in South Beach. The piece is a murder mystery called "Murder at Cafe Noir."

The nonprofit aims to help recovering drug addicts by allowing them to take advantage of art classes it hosts and to work on two productions a year.  Executive Director of the program, Claire Guadagno says "they can be in a safe environment with their peers and not only talking about being abstinent from drugs. More like creating something collaboratively."

Another performance of the play is scheduled for April 27th. For tickets head to southfingrill.com
