A school on Staten Island hosted a conference dedicated to the needs of students with disabilities and their families.

The Staten Island Family Conference for Special Education was held at PS 48 in Grasmere Wednesday morning.

The event was sponsored by the district superintendent and the borough's field support center.

It included workshops focusing on education as well as homework help.

Representatives from local organizations were on hand providing information about their services for children with disabilities.

"Our goal really is to equip parents with resources from the community and information from the Department of Education to support the achievement on advancement for their children," said Kimberly Ramones, Director of Special Education, Staten Island Field Support Center.

This is the third year the conference has been held and organizers hold events like this several times a year.
