A Staten Island woman is speaking out about the warnings signs of a condition that almost halted her singing career.  Ashley Welborn, a worship leader at Salem Evangelical Free Church in West Brighton, says she constantly felt tired and noticed her voice sounded hoarse.  She thought it was allergies. But doctors later diagnosed the singer with polyps on her vocal cords.  After undergoing surgery, Welborn recovered. Her doctor, Mark Courey of Mount Sinai Hospital, says if others experience similar symptoms they should rest their voice and see a doctor.

"If your voice feels tired or sounds tired. Stop. Rest until it no longer feels tired. If the way you're using your voice makes it feel tired more commonly than it did before, then there's a problem with the way you've been using your voice," said Dr. Courey.

Welborn is set to perform for the first time since her surgery at the St. George Theatre's Easter show.
