A red carpet gala celebrates a storied theatre on the North Shore of Staten Island.

Hundreds attended the 88th Anniversary Soiree at the St. George Theatre Saturday night.

The event doubled as a benefit concert headlined by Grammy-winner Michael McDonald.

Back in 2004, a non profit was formed to preserve the landmark and prevent it from being demolished.

Today sisters Doreen Cugno and Luanne Sorrentino are dedicated to restoring the historic theatre and it's development as a cultural and performing arts center.
