Some students on Staten Island will be able to see a little clearer thanks to free eye exams.

For the first time, students at P.S. 57 in Park Hill will get free vision screenings and eye glasses. That's because The YMCA Community School received a 21st Century Grant, which provides after-school programs, tutoring and services inlcuding eye exams.

Now more than 700 students will get the opportunity to get their vision checked this week free of charge.

"Many of the families may not be able to afford glasses. Frames are very expensive. Lenses are very expensive and with this program, if the child needs glasses they get them for free. If they lose or break their glasses, they will get those glasses replaced," said Joyce Strype, Community School Director, P.S. 57

Students can get the free eye exams at the school throughout the week and those who need glasses get to pick the style and color of the frames.
