A Staten Island home severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy is finally getting some major renovations thanks to a nonprofit organization in the city.

Construction Workers with the nonprofit Rebuilding Together New York City started repairing Leone John's home in New Springville Friday. John says Sandy destroyed the first floor of her home when the storm hit more than 5 years ago, and without the non-profit's help she would not have been able to afford to fix it.

One of the nonprofit's missions is to help low income New Yorkers by providing free home repairs.

"People got displaced from their homes, so just getting your home back or making the home more livable it's such a huge relief," said John, a single mother.

Some of the renovations include re-building the bathroom and kitchen on the first floor and fixing the heating system in John's home.
