NATIONWIDE – While it is less than two months into 2018, the massacre at a Florida high school on Valentine’s Day became the 18th school shooting this year.

According to a non-profit, Everytown for Gun Safety, there have been 18 shootings in only 45 days. That equates to one school shooting every two-and-a-half days.

The non-profit's online chart shows 290 school shootings since 2013. Over the past five years, the Lone Star State has seen a total of 25 school shootings.

"In nearly half of mass shootings—42 percent of cases—the shooter exhibited at least one red flag prior to the shooting," states the non-profit.

In Texas, there have been three school shootings during 2018. The first Texas shooting of the year occurred on Jan. 10 when a student found an advisor’s loaded gun at school in Denison, Texas and shot at a wall. No one was injured.

The second Texas school shooting this year involved two people driving to Wiley College in Marshall, Texas where they fired shots at a residence hall on Jan. 15. No one was injured and the driver fled the scene.

Then on Jan. 22, a 16-year-old opened fire in the cafeteria of an Italy, Texas school injuring a 15-year-old student. The teen was arrested not long after the shooting.

The next day, on Jan. 23, two people were killed by a 15-year-old student and a dozen more were injured at a rural high school in Kentucky.

Every day, 96 Americans are killed in a shooting. For every death, two more people are injured.

Additionally, the non-profit found that children under the age of 18 die daily from guns.
