ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Valentine's Day is just two days away, but that didn't stop some local seniors and college students from the celebrating the holiday early.

Students from Saint John Fisher College and residents of Friendly Home dressed up to enjoy some music and dancing at the annual Sweetheart Ball.

Students made Valentine's Day cards to give to their senior sweethearts and they returned the favor by preparing heart-themed treat bags for the students.

The event is organized by the college's SWAV group, which stands for Students Who Advocate Volunteering.

"Just the look on everyone's face when they come here, they're so excited," said Samantha DiPerna, SWAV president. "They want to do something and to be able to be impactful and to help them and just bring joy to their lives, it's really amazing."

A pair of professional ballroom dancers were on hand to teach the students several dances Friendly Home residents grew up on, like the foxtrot, cha-cha and waltz.
