A former hockey player from Staten Island is set to make his Olympic debut in South Korea next week — not because of his skills on the ice, but rather for his artistic abilities.

Dennis Simone of Head Strong Graphics is the official designer of the masks that U.S. Olympic hockey team goalies David Leggio and Brandon Maxwell will wear.

"First, it didn't sink in and then when, you know, when we stopped — when he hung up the phone — I said, 'This is the Olympics, it's something that I always wanted,' and it started to sink in gradually," said Simone.

The players worked with Simone, who has designed masks since 1995, for two weeks to customize the masks.

The team's first Olympic game will be held next Wednesday.
