WESLACO, Texas — The Texas Department of Public’s response to a crash resulted in the recovery of a missing child.

On Friday, the morning of Feb. 2, DPS conducted a crash investigation in Cameron County.

The incident was a one-vehicle crash investigation involving a Dodge Neon on I-69E, north of FM 508. During the initial crash investigation, the troopers discovered a 13-year-old female passenger — a missing child from La Feria.

During the course of the investigation, evidence was established that resulted in various charges against the driver of the vehicle.

Ivan Villarreal, 18, of La Feria, was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault (first-degree felony), indecency with a child (second-degree felony), and abandoning or endangering a child (second degree felony.)

Villarreal was transported and booked into the Cameron County Jail.
