Staten Island residents who want to work for the city now have a more convenient place to take the required civil service exams.

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services officially opened its first civil service testing center on Staten Island.

Previously residents would have to travel to Manhattan or Brooklyn to take the exams.

The center is located on Canal Street across from Tappen Park.

It will be able to accommodate hundreds of testers per week.

"We really are trying to advance the mayor's platform of having a more equitable city and so we want to make sure that we have access to city jobs all over New York City and that means the outer boroughs," said Lisette Camilo of the Dept. of Citywide Administrative Services.

The department is now working on opening a testing center in the Bronx next.
