The Port Authority is limiting some flight arrivals into JFK Airport on Saturday in the wake of a backlog of flights as the airport recovers from Thursday's snowstorm, according to officials.

Officials say some flight arrivals — including all flights scheduled to arrive in Terminal 1 for the rest of Saturday night — are limited until there are enough gates available to handle the backlog due to the recovery of flight schedules after the storm.

The backlog has created chaos for travelers, one of whom sent NY1 a video, seen above, from JFK earlier Saturday that shows hundreds of people stranded at Terminal 4.

The chaos is due to a backlog of flights, after the airport was closed due to the snowstorm. While flights resumed Friday, thousands were canceled or delayed across the region.

Some passengers who exited planes Saturday evening told NY1 that they had waited five to six hours on the tarmac with no food, waiting for a gate to open.

"There were eight flights coming into one circular— one carousel," one woman said. "It was mass chaos in there, but people were calm.

In a statement Saturday night, the Port Authority said the storm severely disabled some of the airport's equipment, leading to delaying in getting planes and passengers into their gates.

Delays are expected to continue into the evening.

The agency said earlier Saturday that it was providing portable staircases and buses to take people off the planes on the tarmac and bring them to the terminal.

But some people said they were waiting, at times, even longer at baggage claim.

The Port Authority said it intends to "aggressively review" the process to assure that planes and passengers get to their gates when many flights are rescheduled after a "severe weather event."
