The NYPD has created a specialized team to handle high-profile sexual assault accusations.

Police officials say the team deployed within the Special Victims Unit will handle incidents that come up in the media.

Entertainment moguls Harvey Weinstein and Russell Simmons are among those recently accused of sexual misconduct against women.

The NYPD says it is looking into claims of sexual assault against Simmons, but has not yet opened an official investigaiton.
