One Staten Island woman's unopened mail just might have saved her life.

Congressman Dan Donovan and Staten Island Postmaster John Tanna honored Postal Worker Lisa Sweeney for saving the life of a woman in Westerleigh this past summer.

Sweeney noticed Marie Boyer, an elderly woman on her route, had not opened her mail for a few days and called 9-1-1.

Her instincts saved Boyer's life as she had fallen four days earlier and was unable to get help.

"I'm on the route 13 years. And I would help her with her groceries when she would pull in the driveway and I'm just aware of what she does. And just something was out of sorts that day," said Sweeney.

Sweeney and Boyer have remained close. The pair even spent Thanksgiving together.
