A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust in Brooklyn on Saturday night, with many of the drugs in plain view, according to the city police department.

Plainclothes officers said they found heroin, cocaine, and Xanax in 22-year-old Johnny Mercado's car in Mill Basin. The NYPD said the heroin and cocaine were out in the open.

They said the Richmond Hill resident was originally stopped for speeding and running a red light at Avenue M and Ralph Avenue.

Mercado faces a laundry list of charges including criminal possession of controlled substances and driving with a suspended license.
