GEORGETOWN, Texas - Georgetown brought in the holiday season with a festival of lights on Black Friday.

The city's "Making Your Holidays Brighter" light festival is the first of Georgetown's holiday event series.

People gathered at the court house to watch as Santa Claus joined Mayor Dale Ross to light up downtown Georgetown with thousands of Christmas lights. Ross said that the event is the perfect way to get folks in the holiday spirit.

"This is just another great opportunity for the citizens of Georgetown to come together as one and celebrate the season," Ross said.

The event was also a way for the city of Georgetown to celebrate their effort to use more renewable energy. Mayor Ross said that Georgetown will be the first city in the state and the largest city in the country to run on 100 percent renewable energy in 2018.

Georgetown will continue the holiday festivities with their annual Christmas Stroll next weekend. They've also planned a Christmas Parade to take place downtown next month.
