Winter is coming and some local volunteers wanted to make sure a community garden on Staten Island is ready for it.

Volunteers spruced up the H.E.A.L.T.H. 4 Youths Skyline Community Garden on Sunday.

About half a dozen college students started planting garlic and a cover crop to protect the garden from the cold and snow.

They also removed old leaves as well as kale and tomato crops.

"Just for students and, like, children, I know this makes a huge impact on their life and growing up and stuff," said volunteer Angela Chi.

Volunteers will be back at it next week to continue planting more cover crop and painting decorative stones.
