A Staten Island beauty pageant competitor doesn't mind getting her hands a little dirty. Nicole Doz of Eltingville recently joined the Department of Sanitation, following in the footsteps of her father and uncle.  Her tasks include operating a street sweeper.  Over the last six years, Doz has competed in various local beauty pageants. And while two may seem like opposites, Doz says the work of beauty queens and sanitation employees actually go hand in hand.

"Right now I have a platform which the Miss America Organization encourages you to have and mine is to protect the environment. It nicely correlated with my job because I  help with beach cleanups and I do a lot of recycling and promoting of things like that," said Doz.

Her next pageant will be in January, where she will compete for the title of Miss Staten Island.
