Local artists will soon get the chance to perhaps add one more piece to their professional portfolios.

Alfrex U S A is holding a contest to find a recently graduated high school student to design the company’s marketing binders.  The New Jersey company makes building exterior materials to help stop fires.

In all there are eight competitors. They're participants in the Queens Council on the Arts’ High School to Arts School program.

Charles Costello, a company manager, says the contest is designed to help open doors, "hopefully this, this can be, a sort of, a stepping stone a leap for them to move onto their next, uh, their next stage of their designing, design career."

The winner, who will be announced later this month, will receive a three thousand dollar scholarship.
