A Marine Corp veteran kicks off his campaign for Congress on Saturday.

Michael De Vito, Jr. held a rally in Westerleigh for his run for the 11th Congressional District of Staten Island and South Brooklyn.

De Vito is an educator at the New York Center for Interpersonal Development where he mentors students.

The democratic candidate for congress says he is running for Congress to get things done for the community, noting "things are not getting done and the reason why that is, is because everyday people are not represented."

He goes on to say, "I'm an everyday guy who represents everyday people and everyday people really need help."

De Vito will face off against six other candidates for the Congressional seat in the Democrat Primary in 2018.
