Representative Dan Donovan visited two local organizations making a difference in the lives of Staten Islanders.

Donovan sat with members of SCORE and The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program to learn about the services they offer.

The volunteer program provides SCORE with senior volunteers to mentor local business owners.

Donovan says meeting with the two organizations helps him better serve the community.

"One of the things that I think people in our business don't do enough is listening and by listening helps me advocate for them better in Washington," said Donovan, who represents the 11th district of New York.

"he has much more specific knowledge of the work that we do and the RSVP does. So that gives him extra confidence in fighting for the money to keep the organizations going," said SCORE Volunteer Counselor Patricia Sturman.

More than 500 seniors have volunteered through the retired and senior volunteer program.
