The start of the new school year is right around the corner, and a local church is helping students prepare.

Members of the Victory Church in Jesus Christ church handed out free school supplies, including notebooks and pencils, to 200 students Saturday.

Organizers said they wanted to help community members who need it the most.

"We want them to have somewhat of a relief,” said Bishop Joseph Ricks. “Because these are some difficult times and people are going through stressful times, and the economy is not as great as it could be. And so we want people to have a breath of fresh air. We want them to exhale for a minute and relax."

This is the fourth year that the church has handed out free school supplies.
