A Staten Island candidate for the New York City Council received a huge endorsement on Wednesday.

The Uniformed Firefighters Association announced they will be endorsing Kamillah Hanks to represent the 49th District.

Hanks said she pledges to work to protect the rights of firefighters so they can better protect the community.

"The firefighters need our support. They need funding. They need resources to be able to do their jobs and I am going to be the one that's going to be there and help them do that," Hanks said.

"I think she brings a new energy and she is willing to listen," said Gerard Fitzgerald, UFA President.

Four years ago, the UFA endorsed her competitor-, incumbent Councilwoman Debi Rose. Meanwhile, this is Hank's fourth endorsement by a union for the upcoming municipal elections.
