They pack each bag with care and compassion.

Each week, Fran Harrison and Barbara Percoco travel around the borough, delivering meals to dozens of senior citizens.

The sisters-in-law are volunteers with Meals on Wheels of Staten Island.

The organization provides two meals a day for more than 1,000 seniors who can't go out and shop for themselves.

Harrison and Percoco say it's the least they can do for their neighbors in need.

"They're really looking for someone to talk to sometimes who can't get out because they're homebound," said Percoco, our Staten Islander of the Week. "It's just a really nice feeling to know that you're doing something like that. You're helping out."

Volunteers use their own vehicles on their own dime to make deliveries to about 1,100 clients each day.

Meals on Wheels leaders say the show couldn't go on without Harrison and Percoco by their side.

"The recipients look forward to their visit each week and there is interaction and so that's just as important as delivering the meals," said Roseann Holt of Meals on Wheels of Staten Island.

Harrison and Percoco donate a few hours once a week to pack and deliver the meals.

They say knowing they're making a difference is what keeps them going year after year.

"I just enjoy meeting the people and you know you're doing something that they appreciate," said Fran Harrison, our Staten Islander of the Week.

As for the seniors in the progam, they say the duo stands out among the rest.

"They're always smiling," said one client. "It's a pleasure to see them."

And so, for serving as a driving force behind a massive community effort, Fran Harrison and Barbara Percoco are our Staten Islanders of the Week.
