It was great day for baseball in the Bronx as the Yankees left fans happy in their home opener.

Nearly 47,000 people packed the Stadium as the Bombers took on the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yanks' bats broke the game open late as they won the game 8 to 1.

Starter Michael Pineda did not allow a baserunner until the seventh inning. He allowed one run on two hits in 7 2/3 innings of work and struck out 11.

Fans NY1 spoke to after the game were thrilled about the win.

"Thought Pineda pitched well, finally gave it his all and didn't give them a home run in the third inning, so that was good," said one fan. "Their rotation is getting better, they keep on building and building, and I think they're going to have a good year."

"Amazing. It's my 20th year opening day with my buddy over here, and it's great weather, a great win," said another. "If we can get to the playoffs, it's always a hope for the World Series. But you know, just trying to stay positive."

With the win, the Yankees improved to 3-4 this season.

New York is off Tuesday. Game two of the series will take place Wednesday night.
