A group of seniors are honoring the borough in an artistic way.

They are painting a mural of Snug Harbor Botanical Garden on one of the walls of The Brielle at Seaview.

The facility specializes in treating patients with memory loss.

The mural is a part of a program at the facility that combines music and art as therapy for the seniors.

One of the program's volunteers told NY1 that her aunt has Alzheimer's disease and that painting the mural has helped bring back some of her aunt's memories.

"Basically touched her roots from when my grandmother was alive. How we all used to do arts and crafts together. So I think it's very important to have something to look at. You know, something to stimulate their memories," said volunteer Joan Moncada.

The Snug Harbor mural is one of five murals expected to be completed by the fall.
