A Jewish community center on Staten Island was temporarily evacuated Monday after receiving a phone call of a bomb threat.

The Joan and Alan Bernikow JCC in Seaview says it got the call around 9:45 a.m.

It says police deemed it safe after a sweep of the building and determined it is similar to recent hoaxes at Jewish centers around the country.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says bomb threats were also made against centers in Tarrytown, New Rochelle and Plainview.

One employee at the Seaview location says officals must do more to stop hate crimes.

"Something needs to be done much more aggressively, because until something is done, I believe that they will continue to make phone calls, make threats, disrupt the lives of people, attempt to instill fear," said Ruth Lasser, communications director for the Jewish Community Center.

Cuomo has ordered an investigation into the wave of bomb threats.

He says state police will work with federal and local law enforcement agencies to investigate.

Last week, several Jewish organizations around the country shut down their buildings after a series of bomb threats were called in.
