The results are in and Staten Island is just barely passing when it comes to street conditions.  As NY1's Natalie Duddridge reports, the Borough scored the lowest citywide.

Employees at the Canal Street Staten Island Repair Shop say they see a lot more customers coming in with busted tires this time of year, because of potholes.

Especially on Staten Island, which has some of the worst roads in the city, according to the latest report by The Independent Budget Office

“My cousin just broke his rim on a pothole, it's bad,” said a driver.

According to the report, Staten Island has the fewest number of streets in good shape.

59.6% to be exact, compared to Brooklyn where more than 75% percent of streets are rated good.

Talk to drivers, and they’ll tell you they’re not surprised.

"I drive around a lot, and Staten Island is up there, yup!"

If you're looking for the smoothest pavement in the Borough, try driving around in Oakwood Beach, it got the best score.

But you may want to go easy in Stapleton and Rosebank, those neighborhoods got ranked as having the roughest roads.

“I do backstreets when I drive. I don't do no Richmond Terrace that's the worst,”

said Angel Carde, at the Canal Street Repair Shop.

"You just hit it, you don't even know it's there, you just hit it."

If you do  hit a pothole and puncture your tire, a quick patch costs about $15 dollars, but where it gets really expensive is if you damage your rim.

"I see so many people paying $500 dollars, just for a rim,” said David Ortiz, with the Canal Street Repair Shop.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation said the City uses the information to figure out which streets need to be repaved the most urgently. They say on Staten Island they resurfaced a total of 142 lane miles in 2015 and 211 miles in 2016.
