Some Staten Island students are sending out more than holiday greeting cards this weekend.

Many high school seniors will mail out their college applications.

Gaynor McCown High School hosted its 6th annual College March Friday.

Parents, faculty, staff and students lined the parade route to cheer on the seniors.

Those involved with the event says it is a milestone for the entire school community.

"Aside from graduation there is no other day where we really celebrate in the students in this way, where they have the adults cheering them on," said Principal Traci Frey.

"They're excited because it is just one step closer to graduation and your future and everything else you've been waiting for your whole life," said Student Kafayat Bello.

The seniors expect to start hearing back from college's after the start of the new year.
