Several hundred brave swimmers jumped into the freezing waters of South Beach Sunday for a good cause.

With lots of momentum and cheer these swimmers fearlessly took part in the tenth annual polar plunge.  Funds raised help athletes of the Special Olympics and some participants say they joined in to help a loved one who has special needs.  Organizers estimate the temperature of the water was in the forties but that didn't deter anyone.

"It's all good for a good cause doesn't really take that much effort to do the pledge and donate so I think it's all great and fun." a participant said.

In addition to raising money for the Special Olympics the event raises awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities.
