Dozens protest in front of Congressman Dan Donovan's office to rally against the repealing of Obamacare. NY1's Thabie Sibanda explains how the group hopes to stop the removal of the Affordable Care Act.

Dozens showed up in frigid temperatures Tuesday calling on Congressman Dan Donovan to stop the repealing of the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare.

"I am really petrified about what the Republicans are planning to do," said Arlene Geiger.

Organizers say they chose his office because he's one of the few Republicans in the New York delegation.

"It was important for him to hear from all New Yorkers that he represents New York, that we are very concerned, that the republicans don't do this. That they don't repeal and replace," said organizer Teresa Caliari.

The group spent about an hour chanting and sharing personal stories. Many say they’re afraid of what would happen to them if President-elect Donald Trump follows through with his promise to do away with Obamacare on his first day in office. People like Mark Hannay who says his insurance plan through Obamacare was invaluable after a bike accident left him injured.

"There was nothing I could do about that. That was not my fault," said Hannay. "It would be hard for me to imagine. I mean I'm in my early 60s...a little while yet to get to Medicare."

In their release organizers of this protest said their goal is to convince just three Republican senators to oppose the repeal. NY1 spoke to the congressman before the rally began.

"It has proven to be an unsustainable healthcare system in America right now," said Representative Donovan. "It's broken. It's not working. It has to be repealed. It has to be replaced."

Donovan says he will always support people's free speech and their right to assemble.

"I am willing to sit down and listen to anyone who has an opinion different than mine to hear them out," said Donovan.
