The College of Staten Island is opening new doors to students in need.

The Administration for Children's Services and the City University of New York are teaming up on a new initiative this fall.

50 foster care youth from across the city are receiving tuition assistance, tutors and on-campus housing this school year.

Maliah Collins has been in foster care for the last 8 years after losing both of her parents.

She is now 1 of 10 students who call CSI home.

"The fact that there are really people here to help and really guide you through, getting in and out of college is a beautiful thing. It's really a blessing. I really do appreciate it," said Student Maliah Collins.

ACS says less then 5% of youth finish a 4-year college degree after leaving foster care.

The program is meant to improve those statistics.
