A college campus on Staten Island honored the brave men and women who have served our country.

St. John's University's Staten Island campus held a ceremony Friday morning in honor of Veterans Day.

Three local veterans shared their stories and experiences with students on campus.

Officials with the university say they felt it was important to bring this experience to their students and honor the veterans in the community.

"Trying to get young people today to understand what we all went through, what the country is about. I go around and I talk to students. So it is very nice that they are doing this," said Jim Wright, a Vietnam War Veteran.

"I feel like a lot of students don't give veterans enough credit, especially today, so it is good to take time out and to honor them for their service to our country," said Stephen LoCastro, a student at St. John's University.

Officials with the University say more than 400 veterans are enrolled in their Queens and Staten Island campuses.
