St. John's University and McKee High School have joined forces to break down the barriers to higher education

St. John’s University, Staten Island Campus held its grand opening of the College Readiness Center at McKee High School on Thursday.

The center will be a hub for resources designed to make McKee students more college and career ready.

SJU students and professors will staff the center, and meet with students and their parents to provide one on one guidance.

Those involved with the project say they are excited for the opportunities it will give students on the island.

Dulce Soleno is a junior at McKee High School.  She says,

"They do offer a variety of things, like resources and people that I cant talk to and I feel like it is also really helpful."

The center is a result of St. John's collaboration with the Thirty Thousand Degrees College Readiness for a Stronger Staten Island initiative.
