The Greenbelt Nature Center hosted its annual pumpkin carving workshop Saturday morning.

Children used stencils to shape designs into the sides their pumpkins.

Leaders of the event showed participants how they can use every part of their pumpkin.

Recipes for how to bake pumpkin seeds were given out and insides of the pumpkins were collected to use for compost.

The Nature Center is glad it is able to provide a fun and festive way to learn.

Gabriela Padewska is an environmental educator.

"They're being creative, they're learning about a fruit which is a pumpkin, they're learning about the seeds, the insides so their is a scientific aspect as well," said Padewska.

Barbara Grusky took part in in the event.

"Here is a pumpkin carving event, I mean its like a surgeon you are taking out the guts or whatever, it is really fun," Grusky said.
