A local hospital is wrapping up "World Breastfeeding Week" by celebrating new moms.

The WIC or Women Infants and Children Program hosted a party Friday at Staten Island University Hospital.

It teaches moms the benefits of breastfeeding over using formula.

This year's theme of sustainability also focused on the economic and environmental positives of breastfeeding.

"Breastfeeding sustains the child and the economy. There's no formula to throw out. There's no cans to mess up the environment. You're sustaining your child," said WIC Program Coordinator Susan Gray.

"If somebody in public doesn't like what they're seeing, then too bad because at least I'm proud of what I'm doing and my kids are eating well, they feel well, they're healthy and that's all that matters," said Mother Veronica Rios.

The hospital has organized the event for the last eight years.
