Artists from across the city add splashes of color to a North Shore neighborhood.

Nonprofit group "Groundswell" unveiled this mural Monday at the Stapleton Housing complex.

Professional artists worked alongside dozens of young students through the entire process.

Together, they spoke to seniors who live in the complex for inspiration on the design.

The mural combines images of Staten Island landmarks with snapshots of community activism.

"This was a great experience. I came into the program shy but I was able to interact with people, build my social skills and strengthen my art skills," said Artist Zachery Welch.

"It was amazing and moving and totally inspiring," said Lead Artist DonChristian Jones.

Artists also portrayed the history and future of the Stapleton Houses.

The mural is just over 100 feet long.
