Local businesses and nonprofits got together Wednesday to create a greener borough.

The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation hosted its sixth annual Green and Clean Festival at Grand Oaks Country Club.

Wednesday's event featured presentations and demonstrations for business owners.

A new addition included a dozen educational seminars for students.

"I think everything is going more green. I mean as a teacher, we're trying to promote that in school and then coming here and seeing some of the professionals share ideas on how they're doing that, makes the kids more aware," said St. Clare's School Teacher Mary Lee.

"Really important for us to teach kids at a young age about the importance of connecting the environment with business," said SIEDC First Vice President Steve Grillo.

More than 50 vendors attended this year's festival.
