The Parks Department is calling all runners to lace up their shoes and head down to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the "Mile Mania Grand Prix Series."

The series is a free running competition open to athletes 18 and up.

Runners can compete in the 800-meter, one-mile and two-mile events. Those with the best times at the end of the four-part competition get a trophy.

"Staten Island has a huge history and a very big following of road racing, and we just wanted to give those athletes the opportunity to come inside and see what it was like," said Lauren Primerano, park administrator for the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

"It's fun. It's a good way to test your fitness, see where you are, see what kind of results you're getting from your training," said participant Benny Adorno.
