Anyone who submitted a claim for damage caused by Hurricane Sandy to FEMA and was denied or underpaid, should resubmit.

Borough President Eric Adams says more than a thousand Hurricane Sandy related flood insurance and property damage claims were denied but the agency now admits there is evidence fraud was committed by the people who assessed those damage claims.

So Adams is encouraging all residents affected by the storm to re-submit their claims.

He is also calling on Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to appoint a special monitor to oversee future claims applications.

"Hurricane Sandy flooded our homes, FEMA and insurance companies flooded our spirits,” said Adams at a press conference. "And to believe that documents were fraudulently changed, and the engineer reports were altered, homes were destroyed and government participated.”

Adams says the agency has acknowledged there is evidence of wrongdoing, but says that's not enough and FEMA should be held accountable.

He says an investigation by Schneiderman's office is already underway.
