Six months after Eric Garner was killed, family, friends and community members united to remember him Saturday.

They came together at the Mt. Sinai Center for Community Enrichment to celebrate the life of the 43-year-old father of six.

Musicians and family members performed and shared their memories.

After the service the group marched to the site of Garner's death in Tompkinsville, Staten Island and held a candlelight vigil.

They also continued to call for justice in his name.

"We're hoping for progress. We're hoping to get on the right people's ears, but like I said, it's still a long road that we have to travel," said Erica Garner, Eric Garner's daughter.

"This is Martin Luther King's weekend. It's all coming together. He was for justice. We are for justice. He was for peace. We are for peace," said Gwen Carr, Eric Garner's mother.

Garner died July 17 after NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo placed him in a chokehold.

In December, a Staten Island Grand Jury decided not to indict Pantaleo.

The family is hoping that the Staten Island District Attorney's office will release the Grand Jury proceedings in the case.

A judge will hear oral arguments on whether or not to release those proceedings later this month.
